From Keto to low carb, vegan to pescatarian, Green Chef's nutritionist-approved recipe boxes are the best way to stay on track.
We’re well into the new year, but those resolutions we made on day one are still weighing heavy on our minds. Try as we might to stick to our guns, there’s always some well-meaning changes – mainly around health and fitness – that feel harder to achieve than most. Drinking more water? Seems easy enough. Walk 10,000 steps a day? Tricky on some days, but fine. However, when it comes to sticking to special meal plans - going vegan, gluten-free, even keto - that’s where we really come unstuck.
That’s why, when it comes to maintaining healthy eating habits, we’re seeking out ways to make our lives easier – and outsourcing with meal prep, recipe boxes and subscriptions rank highly. Time is a big obstacle for those of us who feel like they’re juggling a million things at once – our homes, careers, kids, friends – so anything to cut down shopping and cooking time is a win. Knowing how to navigate our new mealtimes free of meat or carbs, for example, is another barrier. That’s why these simple and easy meal solutions have soared in popularity. But pre-prepared meals and recipe boxes immediately sound more expensive than your average weekly shop, a big no in today’s financial climate. But Green Chef – a weekly recipe box that caters to specialist meal preferences – aims to overcome all that.
What Is Green Chef?
Green Chef is a weekly recipe subscription box that offers nutritionist-approved recipes from 6 diet preferences, customised to fit your tastes. Simply choose your plan and select your meals choices from tonnes of recipes – you’ll receive instruction cards alongside all of the ingredients you need – perfectly portioned out, might we add – so you can whip up delicious diet-appropriate meals with zero hassle or waste.
Who is it good for?
If your busy lifestyle and chosen diet aren’t working in unison, then this is the recipe box for you. Green Chef offers six plans primarily based on the diet you maintain, with one also focused on lifestyle:
Keto: The ketogenic ‘keto’ diet is high in good fats and protein, and low in sugars and carbohydrates - but it can be a tricky one to navigate! These recipes take the stress out of staying on track to ensure you meet ketosis each day.
Vegetarian: Going meat free isn’t always the easiest, but these veggie meals celebrate plant-based ingredients in a fun, balanced and delicious way that will make you turn your back on meat for good.
Lower Carb: If you’re trying to be more carb conscious, these meals are high in protein and free of gluten, grains, soy, and legumes. Examples of past meals include Chicken Thighs in Mustard & Thyme Sauce with Roasted Broccoli and Buttery Peas
Vegan: Whether you’re switching to a vegan diet for the first time or have enjoyed the lifestyle for a while, these recipes rely on a variety of vegetables, plant-based proteins and tasty alternatives that’ll make missing dairy a thing of the past.
Pescatarian: Cut the meat, keep the fish – these recipes will introduce a variety of seafood and veggie heavy options, perfect for an omega-rich lifestyle.
Flexitarian: Carefully crafted to offer the perfect mix of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes, you can look forward to adding some variety to mealtimes.
How much does Green Chef cost?
Ah, the big question – and probably the thing that would have put you off the most in the past. But, if you’re anything like us, it can work out cheaper than your weekly shop. In the Grazia office, we’re terrible for picking up ingredients on the go – a costly approach to dinner time. Plus, you end up wasting ingredients if you only need a small amount for what you’re making – and therefore wasting money in the process. Green Chef perfectly portioned approach means you can get meals for as little as £4.94 per person.
However, it’s even cheaper for first timers – you can get up to £61 off your first four boxes with the code GREENCHEFAFF. We tried a box with four meals for two people and it cut the price from £47.50 to only £28.50!
Is it worth it?
Er, yeah! We picked out meals from the Flexitarian menu - the Chipotle Mushroom Tacos to kickstart the week, followed by another veggie winner, the Halloumi Ratatouille with pesto drizzle. Creamy mushroom and chive cod gave us our fish hit while we rounded out the trial week with the ridiculously delicious Beef Rump Steak and Chimichurri sauce. Every single meal took 25 minutes or less to make, we didn’t have to go shopping and it all tasted amazing. We stuck to our healthy eating goals with absolutely zero distraction whatsoever, and spent less money than usual. Honestly, it was a game changer.
Fancy giving it a go? Don’t forget first timers can get 40% off the first two boxes and 25% off next two – saving up to £61 in total.
